panelPrivacy (2)Vinyl is a very popular fencing material in Boise because it looks great, and is durable enough to hold up to the Boise climate.  The title of this blog post, “Vinyl Fence Maintenance Tips“, might raise a few eyebrows, because after all, aren’t vinyl fences also supposed to be super low maintenance?   The answer to that question is yes, as far as fencing materials go, vinyl requires very little maintenance, but there are a few simple things that can be done to keep it looking new year after year.

How To Clean Your Vinyl Fence

One of the most common problems that you will face with a vinyl fence is an accumulation of dirt and debris.  When you cut and trim the grass along the fence, the clippings and shavings that land on the fence can leave green stains along the base.  The good news is that it doesn’t take much to clean it, in fact, a simple spray down with the garden hose after mowing will usually do the trick. For more stubborn grass stains, use a little dish soap and warm water and with a sponge or brush (we like the long handle brushes made for washing cars), and the stains should come right off.  Power washing is also an option, however, the high pressure usually isn’t necessary for cleaning minor stains.

For more serious stains like tar, spray paint, crayon, marker, stickers, tree sap, grease, etc, we’ve had the best results by using Goof Off Heavy Duty Remover.  Make sure it is the heavy duty remover, because it is safe for most hard surfaces including vinyl.  It just takes a little bit, and those tough spots and stains will come right off.

Cleaning your fence, even if only a few times a year, will keep it looking like new for many years.

Fence Repair

Even though vinyl fencing is extremely durable, it can be damaged due to storms, accidents, falling branches, etc..  We’ve seen many of the DIY fence repair kits that require mixing resins or using spray foam, and they might work for a quick fix, however, for professional looking repairs, simply give us a call, and we’ll make sure it looks as good as new.
